Selfie

I have been having a ball with the June Scraps of Darkness kit! I've been hanging on to this layout for a few days just wishing the rain would go away long enough for me to get a good photo. We finally got a break in the clouds this morning! Yay! Here's my layout:

I decided to pair the pink watercolor from the kit with some gold glitter. I just painted on pink stripes, alternating with gold glitter.

I liked the triangle stickers from the kit, so I decided to mimic those with some patterned paper.

I topped it all off with some black paint splatters. I decided to do my journaling in a curvy fashion  because the layout is arranged in a linear pattern. I thought it contrasted well. Thanks for stopping by! :)

Who'll stop the rain?

Hi everyone! I’m just stopping by to share a quick tutorial and layout. I have had so much since joining this team. I’ve loved playing with the chipboard and I’ve learned lots of new ways to alter it. For this layout, I used a super simple technique to alter a few pieces. Although it was simple, I love the effect it created.

This layout was inspired after we went to a Cincinatti Reds game last week. I must have checked the weather a billion times, and I swear I didn’t see rain coming from anywhere. Of course, we wound up sitting through an hour-long rain delay. Just my luck! I wanted the clouds and rain drops on this layout to have a watery look. Here’s how I achieved that:

First, I covered my chipboard with a layer of white gesso.

Next, I covered the chipboard with blue india ink. I like to cover it with ink and then dab with a paper towel before it dries. It gives it a texturized look.

The next step is to drip a bit of white paint on there. I used white acrylic paint that I thinned down with some water. I just sort of slung it on there.

Super easy!

The June SOD Kit Has Arrived! Yay!

I have been anxiously awaiting this little baby! And I'm doubly excited because it's named after lil 'ol me! Squeal! Here's the kit:

Isn't it just gorgeous?!?!?!? Melinda must have really put a lot of thought into this one, because it is so ME! I don't think I have stopped smiling since it got here. I tore into it the other day and already finished two layouts. Here's the first one:

I have been loving scrapping my childhood photos. This kit fits that topic perfectly! I used the patterned paper to make these cool circles.

I cut out a bunch of circles in varying sizes. Then, I cut them evenly in half. I put the halves together to make colorful circles. The buttons from the kit worked perfectly as center pieces. I also scattered some of the butterflies and jewels around the page.

This next layout is my new favorite. I think I say that almost any time I make a layout, though. Ha!

This layout is centered around a selfie I took of my big giant kid and myself at a baseball game last weekend. ((Go Reds!)) When I looked at the photo, I thought (as I do quite often lately) about how grown up my son is all of a sudden. He's going into SEVENTH grade next year. SEVENTH people! How on earth did that happen? Anyway, my next thought was "Wow. I have an almost-thirteen-year-old. I'm an old lady!"

I used the pink watercolor from the kit along with some yellow paint I had lying around to make this background. I love the pink watercolor. It spreads so beautifully on the page. I cut out some small circles from the patterned paper. I folded them several times to make them more dimensional before attaching them randomly around the page.

I also added some glitter to the chipboard pieces. I love the gold/pink combination! I topped it off with a few splatters of black ink because that's just how I roll lately.

Thanks for stopping by! :)

Scrap Around the World

Hi everyone! The girls at UmWowStudio are playing along at Scrap Around the World. I just loved the mood board as soon as I saw it. It's so soft and pretty.
I loved the color combination here. I went searching for a photo that would fit and I stumbled across this one of me in my wedding dress. True confession time: I have never scrapped my wedding photos! It was a happy, wonderful day and I'm so glad to have the photos, but wedding scrapping has just never been my thing. But for some reason, this mood board made me want to use this photo.
I guess it's out there now. I seriously wore a tiara to my wedding. And my dress had puffy sleeves. And there was a giant bow on my derrière. God bless the 90's. Lol

I hope you will hop on over to Scrap Around the World and play along! :)

My First UmWowStudio Project for June

Hi everyone! I stopped by today to share a new layout with my UmWowStudio goodies!

We visited Rock City in Chattanooga, TN around 2010. Caleb was a little guy then and got a really big kick out of trying on the famous Rock City gnome hat. He wasn't quite as big a fan this time, since he's almost a teenager and, of course, he's entirely too cool for a gnome hat. Needless to say, I forced him to wear it for about 30 seconds and I'm sure I'll be hearing about it for the next 30 years.

For this layout, I used one of the large polaroid frames. I covered it with some glitter and absolutely love the look it created. I also used one of the layered arrows. I backed the arrow with some patterned paper. I also used some of the negative pieces from the explore tags to add a few circles around the page.
