July SOD Layouts and a Bit of News

Hi everyone! Today I'm sharing two layouts that I created with the beautiful July kit from Scraps of Darkness. This first one features one of our furry friends.

My son was bored one day and the next thing I knew, my favorite fuzzy socks were being worn by a basset hound. Gotta love a doggie that appreciates a good pair of fuzzy socks! For this layout, I sketched out an outline for the V shape at the top. I had planned to just lay strips of patterned paper in the outline, but then I decided to slice the lines with my exacto knife so that I could weave the paper into the page. It adds some cool dimension.
This next layout features my big, giant, half grown kid.

I swear, that boy changes every single day. He is officially taller than me now, which kind of breaks my heart into a million pieces. For this layout, I cut long rectangles from the patterned paper and then sliced those in half on a diagonal to create these triangular shapes. I snipped the edges to add another V into the ends of them. I doodled the clouds and then cut them out and adhered them with dimensional tape.

And now for the sad news.. Well, sad-ish anyway. I am going to have to take a break from designing for teams for a while. I started working on my phd this summer and I just can't devote the time that is needed to meet deadlines. I'm certainly not going to quit scrapping, I'm just going to have to scrap when I can. Hopefully that will be often. I sincerely appreciate all the teams that have given me a chance to work with them. Hopefully I can get back into designing for companies when I'm officially "Dr. Sindi". :)

My Boys

Today I'm sharing my second layout with the beautiful July kit from Scraps of Darkness! This layout is all about my two guys (the hubby and my son). As the only girl in the house, I am definitely outnumbered, but since they both bring me such joy I guess I can live with it. :)

To make the shapes behind the photo, I cut rectangles from some of the patterned paper. I then cut them in half lengthwise on a diagonal to make the ends pointed. I cut a "v" shape into the flat ends of two shapes. For the letters in my title, I traces around some chipboard letters on white cardstock and cut them out. I adhered them with dimensional tape.

I also used some of the chipboard shapes from a previous kit to add interest around the page.

Grumpy

Hi everyone. Today I'm sharing a layout created with the July kit from Scraps of Darkness. This kit has everything from florals to blues that are perfect for little boy scrapping, so it's super versatile. Here's my layout:

This is an older photo of my little guy standing around looking grumpy. He always had the cutest little mad face! For this page, I cut strips of patterned paper in rectangles and snipped the ends to look like they were on a diagonal. I roughed up the edges before adhering them to my page. My original idea was to put them together to make a large square, but I decided I liked the separation between them and the diagonal that they created on my page when I put them in this pattern, so that's what I rolled with. I added a few buttons and wrapped some twine around some pieces. I also used some leftover chipboard shapes from last month's kit.

UmWowStudio and Hazel and Ruby: Frame it Up!

Hi everyone! I'm here today sharing a project I created with goodies from UmWowStudio and Hazel and Ruby. I had never worked with Hazel and Ruby products, but I am so glad I got the chance! I used the Wrap it Up paper roll in Chevy Teals and the DIY Decor Tape in teal. I was amazed at how much product you get in those two rolls! I still have a ton left over. From UmWowStudio, I used three of the new frames. They are super cute and the decor tape rolled right on there without any trouble at all. Here's my project:

This is going in my scraproom just as soon as the hubby gets a free moment to hang it up. I am so pleased with the way it turned out. Thanks for stopping by!

Awe Inspiring

Hi everyone! Today I wanted to share my final layout with the beautiful June kit from Scraps of Darkness. I have had a ball with the gorgeous papers in this kit! Here's my layout:

I am still catching up on scrapping photos from our vacation last year. We got some beautiful shots of Niagara Falls and I have scrapped a few, but not all of them.

For this layout, I used the patterned paper from the kit to cover some chipboard letters. I simply covered the letters in glue and laid them on the paper. When they were very dry, I trimmed around them with my exacto knife. I used a bit of sandpaper to roughen up the edges. It's hard to get a perfect edge on those, so the sandpaper gave it a shabby look that worked well.

I used some of the stickers across the top along with one of the arrow pieces. I kept having trouble with the arrows falling off my page, so I finally resorted to using hot glue. It shows in the close up photos, but you don't even notice it on the actual layout. I would rather know they are secure than worry about them coming off when I put my page in the album.

For the bottom of my page, I cut some of the green chevron paper and roughened the edges up a bit to give it dimension. I used a bit of the twine to make a circle and topped that off with a heart and two more arrows.

Wow Embossing Powder and UmWowStudio Project

Hi everyone! I'm just here to share a project I completed using my UmWowStudio goodies and Wow! Embossing powder. But first, I must admit that I have never used embossing powder. Such a sad thing, isn't it? I am so very glad that I got the opportunity to try it out on this project.

I've had to hang on to this project for a while and it's been driving me crazy! I have been dying to share it because I love it so much. I was probably 6 or 7 years old here and I remember being ecstatic over the cotton candy Daddy bought me. My older, cooler, brother didn't think it was all that grand, apparently. HA!

For this project, I used the layered clouds from UmWowStudio. These clouds are probably my favorite product from UmWowStudio. They have been winding up on almost every layout I make lately!

I used four different colors of Wow embossing powder for the clouds, including clear sparkle, metallic brass sparkle, easter sparkle, and princess pink. The princess pink color is my favorite. It is a GORGEOUS sparkly pink that makes me wish I had a little girl around here so that I could use it to emboss 742 butterflies for a layout about her.
